Manitoba’s police watchdog agency, the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), is investigating an incident that happened in Thompson on September 12, 2018.
According to the IIU RCMP were on a call related to an intoxicated female when an altercation between one of the officers and a male bystander occurred. During the altercation, the officer punched the male in the face several times.
RCMP reported the incident to the IIU after surveillance video of the incident was brought to their attention.
Even though the man did not appear to have suffered any serious injury the director of the IIU, Zane Tessler, has determined that it is in the public interest for them to investigate.
IIU investigators are asking any witnesses who have information or video related to the incident to contact them at 1-844-667-6060.
