The independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has ended its investigation into a serious injury sustained by a teen.
On May 3, 2022, RCMP in Portage la Prairie had responded to a call for service and as they arrived spotted a 17-year-old male fleeing on foot. The teen tripped, fell and was taken into custody. Officers took the teen to hospital where he was found to have a broken leg.
The IIU was notified and due to the serious nature of the injury was mandated to investigate.
Investigators talked to the teen by phone and he accepted full responsibility for the cause of his injury. Investigators asked to meet the male in person but the request was denied.
As the male accepted responsibility for the injury and was not willing to cooperate with investigators the investigation was terminated.
