Manitoba’s police watchdog, The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has completed an investigation into allegations of sexual assault against two Winnipeg Police officers.
In October of 2017, the 29-year-old woman claimed that she was taken outside the city and sexually assaulted by two officers after she had been arrested. The woman claims that she was suffering from health issues after her arrest and was being taken to Health Sciences Centre when the assaults took place. She alleged that she was with the officers for more than two hours and was driven outside the city where the assault took place.
The investigation by the IIU has determined the allegations to be false. According to investigators, the GPS from the vehicle indicated the officers travelled six kilometres in under nine minutes.
The woman also claimed she was certain of the badge numbers from the officers but the IIU determined that those numbers belonged to two officers who had retired from the service a decade before the alleged incident.
The IIU has cleared the officers involved because all of the allegations made by the woman were refuted by independent evidence.
