IIU says no evidence an assault occurred by RCMP officer

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) says that an RCMP officer has been cleared of wrongdoing after it was alleged he assaulted his own child.

The IIU began the investigation after it was reported to RCMP on December 6, 2020, that an off-duty RCMP officer has hit his child in the arm once. Police say the assault allegation was made to the mother of the child and a worker at Child and Family Services (CFS).

When the child was examined by a doctor a bruise and abrasion were found on the child’s arm.

The IIU investigation and an independent investigation by Child and Family Services determined that there was no evidence an assault had occurred.
