The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating what happened that caused an injury to a suspect in Portage la Prairie.

Late Wednesday, November 16,2016, evening RCMP in Portage La Prairie responded to an armed robbery. When police arrived on scene three suspects were found however one was able to evade arrest and fled. A dog from the RCMP K-9 unit was used to track the suspect. After the suspect continued to evade capture the dog was deployed and physically engaged the man. As a result of the interaction with the police dog the suspect received an injury to his leg that required surgery.

Since there was a serious injury involved in the arrest the IIU is required to investigate the incident.
