On November 18, 2016 an off-duty officer with the Winnipeg Police Service intervened in a fight between two men on St. Mary’s Road. The men were fighting and running in and out of traffic on St. Mary’s Road and Marion Street.
The officer saw the altercation and stepped in. As a result one of the men who were fighting suffered a broken jaw.
He was treated in hospital then taken to the Remand Centre.
Because there was an injury involving a police officer the Independent Investigations Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is required under legislation to investigate the incident.
The IIU is requesting anyone who may have witnessed the altercation to contact them at 1-844-667-6060.
