IIU investigating after man seriously injured during Winnipeg Police arrest

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba is investigating an incident that sent a 40-year-old male to hospital after his arrest.

On Friday, February 2, 2018, member of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a man with weapons on Sherbrook Street.

When police arrived the man refused to drop his weapons and officers used force to end the confrontation. During the confrontation, the male suspect was injured and may have fractured vertebrae.

The IIU was informed by WPS of the injury and have implemented an investigation as this type of injury is considered serious and they are mandated to investigate.
