Winnipeg Police Patrol Sargent in hot water once again

Winnipeg Police Patrol Sargent Sean Cassidy is in trouble once again this time for improper storage of a firearm.

In January of 2019 Cassidy was charged after an investigation by Manitoba’s police watchdog agency the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU). The IIU investigation involved an alleged assault by the officer when he was off-duty in March of 2017. It is alleged that during the arrest of a 32-yeear-old male suspect Cassidy punched and kneed the suspect causing multiple head injuries.

The latest charges stem from an allegation that the officer may have improperly stored a firearm in an unauthorized place.

Investigators from the IIU conducted a thorough review of the circumstances and Civilian Director Zane Tessler has determined there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred.

Cassidy was informed he was being charged on August 30, 2019. He is facing charges of unsafe storage of a firearm and possessing a restricted weapon at an unauthorized place.

He will appear in Provincial Court in Winnipeg on October 21, 2019.
