The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has determined that the driver who cut in front of a police cruiser causing a collision is solely responsible for the crash.
On April 21, 2018, police were responding to a call with their lights and sirens activated. Three marked patrol units were travelling southbound on Main Street. As the first police vehicle passed the Polson Avenue intersection a woman driving a Toyota Corolla crossed Main Street in front of the second police unit causing an unavoidable crash. The accident sent the cruiser into an area business causing significant damage.
The driver of the Toyota suffered a collapsed lung, fractured right ankle and several fractured ribs.
Because the woman’s injuries required hospital admission the IIU was mandated to investigate the collision.
