Manitoba’s Police watchdog the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking into a collision between a Winnipeg Police Service vehicle and a civilian SUV on Saturday, April 21, 2018
Police were travelling south on Main Street with emergency lights and sirens engaged when a 2010 Toyota Carolla turned directly into the path of the Police cruiser at Polson Avenue.
The impact of the collision sent the police cruiser into a nearby building. No one was hurt in the build but the passenger in the Toyota, a 73-year-old female suffered internal injuries and a fractured ankle.She was taken to hospital where she remains recovering.
Both police officers suffered soft tissue injuries and were treated then released.
The IIU is mandated to investigate when police are involved and a serious injury ensues.
