Officer faces assault charge
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) have recommended charges be laid against an RCMP officer in Oxford House after a February incident that injured a male in custody.
On February 16, 2017, a 30 year old man alleged the arresting officer assaulted him when he was taken into custody at the Oxford House detachment of the RCMP earlier that day.
IIU Civilian Director Zane Tessler has determined after a thorough investigation of the incident that there are reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred.
On May 5, 2017, a constable with the RCMP in Oxford House was arrested on a count of assault causing bodily harm and released on a promise to appear at Provincial Court in Thompson on June 23, 2017.
