IIU looking into incident that left a Dauphin woman with a fractured fibula

Manitoba’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), has been called in to investigate an incident in Dauphin that left a 25-year-old female with a broken fibula.

RCMP say that on November 27, 2018, they were investigating an incident at a home in Dauphin when they arrested the woman for breaching the peace. She resisted being taken into custody and officers used force to control her. She complained of a sore knee and was taken to hospital where she was held for observation.

A week later on December 4, 2018 police were contacted by the woman asking for help in an unrelated matter. During that incident, she disclosed to officers that she had been injured in her last involvement with RCMP.

The RCMP contacted the IIU and were asked by the agency to confirm the injury.

On December 5, 2018, police confirmed that the woman had a fractured left fibula. That injury is considered a serious injury and the IIU is mandated to investigate.

The investigation is ongoing.
