IIU investigating vehicle / pedestrian collision on Notre Dame Avenue

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba are investigating a collision News 4 first told you about on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

Winnipeg Police had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle shortly after 8:00 pm at Notre Dame Avenue and Gertie Street. Although the driver had exited the vehicle the passenger moved to the driver’s seat and attempted to flee the scene.

While speeding away the driver hit a pedestrian crossing Notre Dame Avenue then lost control of the vehicle and ended up on a snow bank on Gertie Street. The fleeing driver was taken into custody. The pedestrian suffered a broken leg.

Since a broken leg is considered a serious injury the IIU is mandated to investigate.

Witnesses or other individuals who have video or information are asked to cal the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
