IIU investigating two incidents involving Brandon Police

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking into two separate incidents involving Brandon Police Service officers.

On January 16, 2021 a male was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre after being taken into custody by police. The accused claimed that during his arrest he was assaulted.

Although the injuries the male was being treated for do not meet the definition of a serious injury the IIU civilian director has determined an investigation would be in the public interest.

The IIU are also investigating an allegation that a Brandon Police Service officer perjured themselves during testimony at a provincial court proceeding on June 3, 2021.

As the allegation may involve am offence under the Police Services Act an investigation by the IIU is mandatory.
