IIU investigating threats made by an on-duty Manitoba First Nations Police Service officer

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency has taken over the investigation into alleged threats made by an on-duty Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNP) officer in November of 2022.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) says that an MFNP officer allegedly approached an individual and made a threat against them. The individual reported the incident to RCMP and on December 9, 2022, the RCMP advised the IIU of their investigation. The IIU advised the RCMP that they would monitor the investigation.

On January 30, 2023, after reviewing the materials provided by RCMP, the civilian director of the IIU determined that it was in the public interest for the IIY to take over the investigation.
