The death of a suspect in RCMP custody prompted an investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).
On Friday, October 30, 2020, RCMP in Ste. Rose du Lac arrested a male suspect who was highly agitated. He had allegedly been threatening workers with a machete on Lake Road SE on the Ebb and Flow First Nation
He was taken to the detachment where he collapsed in medical distress. Emergency Medical Services were called and transported the male to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The IIU has assumed the responsibility for the investigation. A civilian monitor request has been made to the Manitoba Police Commission due to the case involving a death.
