The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating an incident that happened in Thompson on March 13, 2018.
RCMP were called to remove an intoxicated male from a residence but the man resisted being placed in handcuffs and took off on foot

The man was eventually taken into custody but continued to resist officers.
When the male was in jail he complained of sore ribs and was taken to Thompson General Hospital. He was examined by medical staff and it was determined that he had a broken rib.

RCMP contacted the IIU and an investigation was begun. The IIU is mandated to investigate all serious incidents involving police officers. A broken rib is considered a serious injury under the regulations that govern the IIU.
