Suspect suffers broken arm during arrest, IIU investigating

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is looking into an incident involving Winnipeg Police officers and an injured 36-year-old male suspect.

According to the IIU, Winnipeg Police arrested a male in the rear lane of William Avenue West after he appeared to be acting in a suspicious manner.

As the officers tried to arrest the suspect he became uncooperative and force was used to place him in custody.

The male was taken to the Winnipeg Remand Centre. He was then transported to the Health Sciences Centre and treated for a broken left arm.

Due to the nature of the injury, the IIU is mandated to initiate an investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the arrest or have video footage of it is asked to call investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
