Alleged impaired driver injured during arrest, IIU investigating

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency, The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), is looking into a case after a 24-year-old male was injured during an arrest.

According to the IIU, On November 24, 2019, RCMP responded to the report of an impaired driver around 5:00 am.

Officers found the suspect and while he was being arrested they had to use force in order to place him in custody.

When the male was placed in a cell he told police he did not feel well. He was then taken to Health Sciences Centre and after an examination, he was admitted.

The male has internal injuries which is defined as a serious injury which requires the IIU to investigate.
