On Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2019 Winnipeg Police saw a 30-year-old male near Flora Avenue and Parr Street who was armed and appeared to be bleeding.
Officers chased the man on foot and were able to place him into custody. Paramedics transported the male to hospital after he became unresponsive.
He died shortly afterwards.
Winnipeg Police contacted the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) who immediately took over the investigation.
Under their mandate the IIU investigates all cases where there is a fatality while someone is in the custody of police.
IIU investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have video to call 1-844-667-6060.
