Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the death of a suspect after he was taken into police custody.
According to the IIU, Winnipeg Police responded to the report of an Alfred Avenue break-in around 2:30 am on
As the man was taken into custody he appeared to be in medical distress. An ambulance was called and the suspect was taken to St. Boniface hospital where he died shortly afterwards.
The IIU was notified by Winnipeg Police and have assumed control of the investigation. The IIU has requested a civilian monitor from the Manitoba Police Commission since the case involves a fatality.
