IIU investigating following in-custody death in Selkirk

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the in-custody death of a 54-year-old male in Selkirk.

The IIU says that around 1:30 am Monday, December 30, 2019, Selkirk RCMP officers responded to a home in the RM of St. Andrews. A male was taken into custody without incident and driven to the detachment in Selkirk.

According to the RCMP, the male became unresponsive shortly afterwards and fell into medical distress. Attempts to revive the man with CPR were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

The IIU has taken over the investigation due to it involving a fatality.
