IIU investigating death of man after being arrested

Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the death of a 41-year-old male after he was arrested by Winnipeg Police in the early morning hours of Thursday, October 25, 2018.

According to the IIU officers responded to a disturbance call near the CN rail line in the east end of the city. They took a male suspect into custody. As the man was being handcuffed he became unresponsive. Paramedics were called and they took the suspect to Concordia Hospital. The suspect died the next day. The cause of death is unknown.

The IIU has taken over the investigation because it involves a fatality while in police custody.

Anyone with information that can help investigators is asked to call the IIU at 1-844-667-6060
