IIU investigating broken arm caused while police were escorting victim out of a restaurant

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency has launched an investigation into the cause of a broken arm sustained by an adult male while interacting with Brandon Police.

On December 18, 2022, Brandon Police Service responded to a restaurant around 12:30 am after two patrons refused to leave. Officers say that when they arrived they located an adult male and an adult female. The male became argumentative and refused to leave the business. As officers were assisting the male in leaving his arm was broken. The male was taken to hospital and treated for a broken humerus.

Under their mandate, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) must investigate as a broken humerus is considered a serious injury.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may of video footage that can help investigators is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
