Manitoba’s Police watchdog, The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), is looking into the circumstances surrounding an accused man’s injury during an arrest.
On Sunday evening Winnipeg Police were called to a residence on Sargent Avenue for a wellness check. During the search of the apartment, a 34-year-old man became aggressive and armed himself with a weapon.
The two officers in the apartment used force to subdue the man which resulted in a fracture to his right orbital bone. The male received medical treatment in hospital.
Under legislation, this type of injury is considered serious and the IIU is mandated to investigate.
Investigators from the IIU are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who may have video footage that can help them is asked to call 1-844-667-6060.
