The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after a suspect was injured by a “less lethal” weapon used to subdue him.
The IIU say that on November 5, 2021, Brandon Police Service members responded to a call about a male armed with a knife on 18th Street.
Officers located the suspect near 15th Street and Horne Avenue. A “less lethal” weapon was use to subdue the male after prior attempts were made to have the male surrender. The male suffered a minor injury due to the use of the weapon and the suspect was taken to hospital.
The IIU is mandated to investigate when there are any injuries as a result of a firearm.
