The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating serious injuries that were allegedly caused during the arrest of a suspect on July 29, 2021, by Winnipeg Police Service officers.
The WPS advised the IIU that the Law Enforcement Review Agency (LERA) had secured medical evidence after a complaint that indicated the male had suffered fractures to his ribs, clavicle, scapular as well as a collapsed lung during the arrest.
Since the injuries are considered serious under the IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate the incident.
