The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating alleged injuries caused to a female suspect while she was in custody in Portage la Prairie.
According to the IIU an adult female was arrested on July 1, 2022, as the result of an incident in Amaranth, Manitoba. The female was arrested and taken to cells in Portage la prairie. Once the female was in the cell an incident occurred that required police to use force to restrain the female.
When the female was released she complained of pain in her hand, face and arms. She was taken o hospital in Portage la Prairie for treatment. RCMP were told she had sustained a broken nose and broken right arm/wrist.
Since a broken arm/wrist is defined as a serious injury under IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate the incident.
