An RCMP officer has been placed on administrative leave after allegedly intentionally hitting a dog with a police patrol unit in Pukatawagan.
The incident was reported to RCMP on January 7, 2021, and stated the dog had been sitting in the road when the on-duty officer drove into it. The condition of the dog is unknown. Efforts to find the animal after the incident were not successful.
RCMP began an investigation into the incident and informed the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).
The IIU decided to take the lead in the investigation in the public interest.
The RCMP has initiated a Code of Conduct investigation into the matter as well.
IIU investigators are asking anyone with information or video footage of the incident is asked to call 1-(844)-667-6060.
