The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after two people were injured fleeing from RCMP.
The RCMP says that around 10:30 am on Thursday November 14, 2019 officers were called to a break-in at a home on Highway 26 in the RM of St. Francois Xavier.
The home owners, who were out of the country, were alerted by their security system that their home was being broken into. They contacted family member nearby who checked on the home and saw two suspects leaving with stolen items.
The family members follow the suspects and relayed the information to police.
Officers located the suspect truck on Highway 26 and began a pursuit when the suspects tried to flee from police.
In their attempt to evade officers the suspect vehicle turned into a field, blew a tire and slammed into an embankment.
A 27-year-old male and a 19-year-old female were transported to Health Sciences Centre in stable condition. They are both facing charges of Break and Enter, Flight from Police and Possession of Stolen Property.
Police say the pair also have outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.
The IIU is mandated to investigate the incident because the suspects sustained injuries that required hospitalization.
Anyone who may have witnessed the pursuit or has video footage of it is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
