The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after a 14-year-old male sustained an injury while in custody in Little Grand Rapids.
The IIU says that on July 17, 2020 the teen was taken into custody and placed in cells. A few hours later he complained to RCMP officers that he had hurt his hand while in the cell.

Officers took the teen to the nursing station where it was confirmed the teen had broken his knuckle.
The IIU civilian director, Zane Tessler, determined that although a broken knuckle is not considered a serious injury it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate the incident.
