The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is looking into a case after a suspect in Thompson suffered a collapsed lung.
According to the IIU, Around 11:30 pm on November 12, 2020, RCMP used a taser during the arrest of a suspect involved in a domestic dispute in Thompson. The suspect was taken to hospital after his arrest where he was medically cleared and released back into police custody.
The next day he was taken back to the hospital for further assessment where it was discovered he had a collapsed lung. The suspect was admitted to hospital.
Due to the type of injury the suspect suffered required hospitalization on an in-patient basis the IIU is mandated to investigate.
