Manitoba’s police watchdog agency is investigating after a male was allegedly injured during an arrest by Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) officers.
According to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance jut after 5:00 am on August 16, 2023, in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue.
When officers arrived they found the male and female and when they tried to speak to the male he suddenly fled only to turn around moments later to confront the officers. A taser was deployed and the male was taken into custody. Police took the man to Health Sciences Centre to be medically assessed and learned that he had a facial fracture and a broken rib.
As the injuries meet the definition of a serious injury the IIU is mandated to investigate.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has video footage that can help the investigation is asked to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
