The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating an in-custody death of an adult male on November 4, 2021.
According to the IIU, Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a male on the road on Osborne Street acting in an aggressive and erratic manner. When officers arrived the male was detained and handcuffed. Soon afterwards the male collapsed. Paramedics on scene administered CPR immediately and transported the male to St. Boniface Hospital where he later died.
As this is a case involving an in-custody death the IIU is mandated to investigate.
