Early Sunday morning, July 22, 2018, RCMP tried to pull over a vehicle near Cranberry Portage about 7oo kilometres north-west of Winnipeg.
Police say they attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle but the driver refused to stop and took off northbound on Highway 10. The vehicle ended up in a water-filled ditch.
Police went into the ditch and located the 19-year-old woman seatbelted in the vehicle but unconscious.
She was taken to hospital but then transferred to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
The IIU was notified and is investigating as they are mandated to do when someone suffers internal injuries that require hospitalization after contact with police.
