Manitoba’s Police watchdog agency, the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking into the circumstances that seriously injured an off-duty RCMP officer.
The IIU says that on Friday, November 29, 2019, they learned that on September 7, 2019, the off-duty officer was hunting when the firearm he was carrying discharged. The officer was seriously wounded.
Under their mandate, any injury caused by a police officer’s discharge of a firearm is grounds for an investigation by the IIU.
