Broken arm leads to IIU investigation

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency, The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), is looking into a case surrounding a teen whose arm was allegedly broken during an arrest.

The IIU says that Winnipeg Police officers were called to a home about an out of control intoxicated youth on May 18, 2019. When police arrived on scene and tried to take the youth into custody a struggle ensued that resulted in an injury to the girl’s arm.

The youth was taken to hospital where medical personnel determined that the girl’s arm was broken above the elbow. The youth was treated and released.

The IIU has initiated an investigation because a broken arm is a serious injury and therefore they are mandated to look into the incident surrounding the arrest.

Witnesses or anyone else with information that can help investigators is asked to call 1-844-667-6060.
