The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is looking into the death of a 42-year-old male who died on August 2, 2019, after being arrested by Winnipeg Police.
According to the IIU, Winnipeg Police Service officers were called to a domestic incident in the 800 block of Consol Avenue. The male suspect fled the home and police pursued catching up to him a block away.
Investigators were told that during the arrest the suspect became uncooperative and officers used a taser to subdue him. The suspect became unresponsive shortly after being restrained. He was taken to St. Boniface Hospital but was pronounced dead soon afterwards.
The IIU is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have video of the incident to contact them at 1-844-667-6060.
