The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has completed its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was fleeing from police.
Around 9:00 pm on April 9, 2022, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Selkirk Avenue near McKenzie Street. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop ond fled from the officer. A few blocks later the suspect lost control of the vehicle he was driving, jumped the curb then flipped onto its roof and crashed through the wall of a local pizza parlor. The driver sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
The investigation found no evidence that indicated that any actions of the officer contributed to the collision or the resulting death.
