The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has cleared several Brandon Police Service officers in a case dating back to July 2017. Allegedly the officers committed conduct and Criminal Code offences between February and June 2017.
The IIU was mandated to investigate because the allegations involved a prescribed offence under the Police Services Act.
Civilian Director of the IIU, Zane Tessler, was not satisfied that reasonable and probable grounds existed to warrant charges under any federal or provincial statute.
Although the report was completed in January 2018 it was not released until after the RCMP completed an investigation into other proceedings arising from the incident related to the alleged distribution of intimate images.
