Manitoba’s Police watchdog agency has laid charges against two Manitoba police officers under the Criminal Code of Canada.
Brandon Police Service
The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba began an investigation into the actions of a Brandon Police Service officer after an allegation of voyeurism surfaced against the officer in April of 2019.
The investigation determined that the incident occurred without the victim’s knowledge or consent.
IIU Civilian Director, Zane Tessler, authorized the charge of voyeurism against the officer.
In order to protect the identity of the victim the officer’s name was not released.
Manitoba First Nations Police Service
After an investigation stemming from a December 2019 allegation the IIU has determined that a Manitoba First Nations Police Service officer will face two charges of Publication of an Intimate Image Without Consent.
The investigation determined that the victim had no knowledge and did not consent to the images being distributed.
The officer was arrested and released on an undertaking with conditions that include no contact or communication with the victim.
The IIU said that in order to protect the identity of the victim they will not be releasing the officer’s name.
