IIU clears Winnipeg Police after man breaks leg jumping from window

In a story News 4 told you about in  August  2017,  a male jumped from a third story apartment window on Balmoral Street as police arrived to investigate a domestic dispute.

When officers arrived they found the man on the ground after already jumping from the suite. The male was suffering from a broken leg as a result of the jump. He was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery to repair the injury.

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) was called in because the injury was considered serious.

The IIU talked to the male and he told them that he had had no contact with officers before jumping and that he jumped out the window because he was being attacked by his ex-girlfriend

Investigators determined that the male’s injuries from the jump were from his actions and therefore he is solely responsible for them.
