Dog bites suspect, IIU investigating

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is asking for witnesses to come forward after a 21-year-old male suspect was bitten by a Brandon Police Service dog as he tried to evade officers.

On July 19, 2019, Brandon Police responded to a disturbance at a home on 9th Street. A male had fled from police and the K-9 Unit began tracking.

The police dog engaged the male shortly afterwards and the suspect received an injury to his hand that required medical treatment.

The IIU civilian director, Zane Tessler, has determined that although the injury does not meet the definition of a serious injury it is in the public interest to investigate.

Anyone who may have witnessed the altercation of who has video is asked to contact IIU investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
