IBEW hits the picket lines in dispute with CN Rail

On Saturday, June 18, 2022, Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) went on strike against Canadian National Railway (CN).

According to the union, no agreement was reached on the final day of mediation and there are no new dates for negotiation scheduled at this time. The company has proposed binding arbitration to settle the outstanding differences.

“The Union’s negotiating committee has worked tirelessly over the past 8 months to achieve a fair and reasonable settlement for our members. It is unfortunate that CN has refused our most recent offer leaving us with only one option with hopes of achieving a negotiated settlement, that is to remove our services,” said Steve Martin, Senior General Chairman for System Council No. 11 of the IBEW.

The union is looking for benefit and wage increases and amendments to existing work rules.

IBEW represents more than 750 Signal and Communications employees at CN.
