IBEW and CP Rail reach tentative last-minute agreement

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) who represent approximately 360 signals and communication workers and CP Rail have reached a last-minute tentative three-year deal.

Teamsters and IBEW issued a 72-hour strike notice on Saturday, May 26, 2018, to CP Rail that would have put the unions in a position to walk out at 9:00 pm Central time tonight.

Details of the agreement have not been released and the agreement will still need to be ratified by the membership of the union.

“We have come through a number of challenging years to become an operational leader,” CP President and CEO Keith Creel said. “I look forward to working with this union to become the employer of choice.”

The tentative agreement ensures that IBEW employees remain on the job and passenger operations are not impacted.

CP Rail still needs to reach an agreement with the Teamsters who represent more than 3,000 conductors and locomotive engineers.
