Hydro worker killed on the job in Northern Manitoba

A 22-year-old male was killed on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, while working for Forbes Brothers Ltd, a Manitoba Hydro contractor, at a work site near the Limestone Generating Station.

It happened around 9:00 am. Police say the male was securing metal sheets on a flatbed truck when two of the sheets slid and hit him.

The male was taken to hospital but died of his injuries shortly afterwards due to his injuries.

According to a statement from Manitoba Hydro, Forbes Brothers has been contracted to build a transmission line to carry power from the Keeyask Generating Station to a converter station near Gillam.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the workers’ family,” said Kelvin Shepherd, President and CEO of Manitoba Hydro. “This is a very sad and tragic incident. Counseling has been made available to all contractor and Manitoba Hydro employees who were on site at the time of the accident.”

Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health are conducting an independent investigation of the incident but are collaborating with RCMP from Gilliam.
