Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to the report of a gas leak in the area of the 400 block of Winchester Street on Tuesday evening, February 23, 2021.
Manitoba Hydro crews had been dispatched to the scene as well and discovered high levels of natural gas in the sewer line.
Firefighters evacuated several home in the immediate area as a precaution.
Hydro remains on scene to repair the leak. Winchester is closed to traffic between Ness Avenue and Silver Avenue.
WFPS remind residents that signs of natural gas include rotten egg smell, bubbles in a ditch or waterway, dirt being blown into the air, distinct patches of dead or discoloured vegetation, or a loud hissing noise.
If you suspect a natural gas leak leave the area and call 911.
