After three years of construction, the new traffic interchange at Highway 59 and the North Perimeter Highway is set to open, at least in part, on September 15, 2018.
The initial opening will allow both North Perimeter and Highway 59 traffic through the new interchange but some areas will still be subject to detours until those areas are completed later this fall.
“We are opening the new interchange in stages to ensure safety and to effectively integrate the upgraded infrastructure back into use,” said Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler.
Construction on the $250 million interchange began in July 2015 and will allow for an upgrade of six lanes in the future. The project also upgraded the intersection at Highway 59 and Provincial Road 202, just north of the interchange, with new traffic signals and additional turning lanes. Traffic is also redirected from Knowles Avenue to the Headmaster Row extension.
