Nurses union says government not talking to frontline workers about health cuts
Just one day after their annual provincial conference in Winnipeg ended the Manitoba Nurses Union rallied the troops to protest proposed changes to the way health care is delivered in Manitoba.
Hundreds of Nurses and supporters gathered on the steps of the Legislature on Wednesday April 26, 2017 during the noon hour in an attempt to let provincial politicians know of their concerns.
The President of the Nurses Union, Sandi Mowatt, questioned how the province could improve patient care while at the same time closing three Emergency Rooms in Winnipeg along with other health cuts.
The province has already cut frontline staff in other departments and has ordered a 15% cut to all management positions across the board including at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA). The WRHA is also required to reduce their annual budget by 3% or $83 million.
Although the Conservative government has promised not to cut frontline workers or services the reality is that has already happened with the closing of a quick care clinic and eliminating jobs in other departments.
