Human trafficking investigation results in conviction

A 33-year-old male was sentenced to three years in prison in May 2022, stemming from a longterm investigation into human trafficking.

Between 2019 and 2021 Winnipeg Police Service Counter Exploitation Unit began an investigation into the individual who recruited females to provide sexual service for hire.

Investigators identified two victims and were able to get them to provide details of their recruitment by the male to work as escorts. The male would then post ads on the internet that initially offered massage services but eventually transitioned offering sexual services.

Police raided three rental properties in April 2021, that were believed to be used for human trafficking.

Ferosh Tailor of Winnipeg was charged for his alleged involvement with Two counts of Procuring Person to Provide Sexual Services, Advertising Sexual Services, Material Benefit from Sexual Services and Sexual Assault.

Tailor was convicted on the charge of Material Benefit from Sexual Services. The other charges were stayed.

Winnipeg police say that this investigation is the first of its kind in Manitoba to produce such a substantial sentence.
